Strathclyde Police have been stopping motorists and pedestrians in Glasgow city centre after a bank was held up by men wearing fake police uniforms.
The raid took place at 10.40 last Monday at the NatWest Bank in Blythswood Square in the centre of Glasgow. Three men threatened a security guard with what is believed to be a gun and then escaped in a Mercedes car with an amount of cash. The car was seen driving down Blythswood Street, turning right into Waterloo Street and then taking the westbound carriageway of the M8 motorway.
The actual amount they stole is as yet unknown. Luckily no-one was injured and no shots were fired during the robbery.
Det Insp Kate Jamieson said:
"Extensive police inquiries are continuing, and the aim of today's operation is to speak to motorists and pedestrians who may have witnessed the incident unfold to try and find out more information on who may have been responsible.
We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the suspects drive off in the silver-coloured car in the direction of Waterloo Street.
Blythswood Street and Waterloo Street are very busy areas, with both pedestrians and motorists, and I would appeal directly to anyone who may have been in those areas at the time of the incident to come forward to police urgently."
