Workers in the Bellshill Woolworths store have missed out on receiving compensation after the company went bust.
Usdaw, the shop workers union, were awarded £67.8 million in compensation for over 24,000 former employees of the store who were made redundant when Woolworths went bust in 2008.
Unfortunately workers in the Bellshill store will miss out on the compensation due to a loophole in the regulations. This loophole stated that compensation would not be payable if fewer than 20 redundancies were carried out in a store. This means that over 3,000 former employees, in addition to those in the Bellshill store, will not receive any redundancy payments.
