POLICE officers say they are investigating the ‘unexplained’ deaths of a man and a woman at the Strathallan festival.
A MAN and woman have been found dead at T in the Park.
Police have confirmed that the two deaths are being treated as separate incidents, and are currently “unexplained”.
The two dead revellers were discovered in the festival campsite in the early hours of this morning.
The annual festival opened yesterday evening at Strathallan Castle, with the main stages due to open Friday until Sunday.
A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm we are investigating reports of the death of a female and the separate death of a male at T in the Park.
“The deaths are unexplained at this time and work is ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding both. We are unable to comment further at this stage.”
Police officers are also investigating a video that emerged of a fight breaking out at the site.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife, said:
“This is tragic news and I am sure I echo the sentiments of everyone when we send condolences to the families involved and, indeed, to the organisers of T in the Park who have worked hard this year to overcome last year’s concerns about public safety.
“Clearly, an investigation now has to take place and I hope this will be undertaken as quickly as possible. It is essential that police establish exactly what happened and why.”
Last year security was stepped up after a 36-year-old man was found dead at the campsite of the Strathallan music festival.
The festival, which welcomes around 85,000 revellers, opened its gates on Thursday for the three-day event and will see the Stone Roses headline tonight.
