Responsibilities:

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
  • Advise site management on day-to-day health and safety matters.
  • Work closely with the project team to promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Support the management and implementation of the ISO 45001 Safety Management System.
  • Coordinate the completion of safety paperwork by supervisors, including briefings and inspections.
  • Conduct daily and weekly site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Deliver toolbox talks covering health, safety, and wellbeing topics.
  • Attend and chair safety meetings as required.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, and share lessons learned with the team.
  • Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, CDM regulations, and client standards.
  • Review documentation such as method statements to ensure appropriate health and safety content.
  • Engage directly with the workforce to promote best practice and safe working behaviours.
  • Monitor and report health and safety performance to the project Health & Safety Manager.
  • Support health and wellbeing campaigns and initiatives across the project.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety advisory role within construction, civil engineering, roads, or infrastructure projects.
  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high standard of written English.
  • Good IT skills including Email, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with site teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Confident communicator capable of engaging with both management and site operatives.
  • Proactive attitude with a commitment to promoting high health and safety standards.
  • Willingness to challenge unsafe conditions or breaches when necessary.

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience working on civil engineering projects.
  • Membership with IOSH, IIRSM, or similar professional body.
  • Experience working within OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 safety management systems.
